Bio

I am an experimental photographer, with large dollops of print making, collage, and book arts thrown in for good measure. Almost all of my work begins with a photographic image, though often made with very primitive forms of mark making on photosensitive substrates with light and chemicals, and might not be recognized by most as a photograph. The work tends to be abstract and non-representational, seeking to operate at a non-verbal, emotional level. Though my work generally begins in the analog, hands on with material objects, it is typically finished in the digital. I freely and unapologetically mix the two, pushing the limits of both. I am artist and mad scientist, always ready to ask, "what if?”, and set out to answer my own question.

Of all the historical, experimental, and alternative photographic approaches I have explored, chemigrams resound with the greatest music in my heart, in particular chemigrams made with hard lacquer resist. I could not tell you when I first came across Pierre Cordier’s chemigrams from the 1950’s, ... view more

Like a novel that moves back and forth in time, I began my story in this Diary Memoir in the middle. I won’t go back as far as, “I am born.”, but I will try to find a beginning. My formal education is in math and computer science. Growing up on a black land farm in northeast Texas, I loved to ... view more

In Jan., 2021, looking to expand my presence and sales beyond my northeast Texas locale, I applied to an online art marketplace and was denied. I felt that my application had been strong and I was stung by the rejection, but it may have been a blessing in disguise. If I had been accepted, I might ... view more

I have more that I’d like to share about these pieces. I’d like to speak about the personal – something that I am having to train myself to do more readily. The original chemigram from which the Blue Planet series has grown exists in the physical world as a 24x30” archival print on aluminum. That ... view more
