“Painted in 2018 in the Austin Texas studio, Facing the Ether’s creation was inspired by the always evolving and peaking Ethereum charts at the time. It celebrates our expansion and connection with all of the dimensions that are alive when creating new solutions for a solarpunk future. Envisioning, dreaming, crafting, experimenting, trading, seeing it diversify and gather utility, and even more interesting to me, gather community, scramble and challenge definitions of value, and create opportunities for art expression. Zooming into detail we can see abstracted numbers and encrypted messages of positivity in channeled light language.”

Facing the Ether

Prior to minting this NFT, Nanu digitally layered ripples emanating from the silhouette of the figure and included a small Ethereum icon.  Revisiting this piece years later, Nanu reflected on the inspiration for the original painting: 

"[It was] the first time Ethereum ever peaked. The first time that everybody started taking Ethereum that's when I made that piece. I've been making art, Ethereum art, for a while...

I was just learning to manage my wallets. I was still new at it and so grateful for my friends help figuring it out. Eth and Eth-adjacent coins were the first ones to moon for me and I felt, okay, there's something to this. I was not technically savvy but started learning slowly. I wondered, is it a fork of Ethereum? Or is it built on Ethereum? And that  threw me into a loop of education. I became really obsessed with the details. I was looking at the charts all the time. And I was getting really excited about being able to read them because I started being able to predict little things here and there, and when Ethereum peaked I wasn't surprised at all. It all just made so much sense because these things have been built on it. It's a utility, it's added community and so of course this was gonna pop. That was the beginning of Ethereum's history, the beginning of people really taking it seriously and kind of falling in love with it, and matching it at the same level as Bitcoin. Maxi's will never say that but as far as mainstream. yeah, it became a serious coin. 

So yeah, I feel like I've been a fan of Eth from the beginning before Ethereum was solid; I believed in it, I believed in the people building it too.”
